MALVERN 2012 LATE REPORT!

Dwi heb gael amser tan rwan i son am y sioe yn Malvern. Roedd y safon yn anhygoel cysidro y flwyddyn yr ydym wedi ei gael ac roedd y byrddau arddangos yn orlawn. Braidd yn siomedig oeddwn i fy hun o safon y cynnyrch wnes i roi ar y byrddau, er gwaethaf hyn roeddwn yn lwcus i ennill yn y dosbarth tatws 'NVS Amour'.

Doedd yna ddim cymaint wedi trio eleni yn y dosbarth hwn gan gynnwys Sherie Plumb sydd yn gyson yn ennill pob dosbarth arall yn y dosbarthiadau tatws. Amour oedd yr unig daten o safon oeddwn wedi gallu ei thyfu i'r pwysau ar maint priodol i gystadlu am y cardiau.

Malvern was an eye opener in terms of the quantity of exhibits but also for the quality considering such a bad year it's been for the veg grower. I was a bit disappointed in my own exhibits but still managed to win the class for 5 'NVS Amour' potatoes. I was lucky that Sherie Plumb had not entered this class as she won all the other potato classes. Amour was the only potato I had been able to grow to the ideal size and weight this year, hopefully next year will be better ( I keep saying this every year!)

Dosbarth arall wnes i drio oedd '5 o Foron Byr' hefo set o Sweet Candle ac roedd y bwrdd arddangos yn y dosbarth hwn yn anhygoel. Roedd pob un o'r 32 set oedd ar y bwrdd wedi cyrraedd safon uchel iawn ac doeddwn ddim yn genfigenus o'r beirniaid, ni ddaethant i benderfyniad ar y 5 uchaf tan tua 11.30 er i'r dent garddwriaeth fod ar agor i'r cyhoedd ers awr a mwy. Roedd pob un set yn debyg iawn i'w gilydd gan fod y mwyafrif o arddangoswyr yn tyfu Sweet Candle erbyn hyn.

The class for '5 Stump Carrots' was a well contested affair with 32 sets entered which was a sight to behold. The judges took till 11.30 to come to a decision on the top 5 even though the marquee had been open for an hour or so and the general public wandering around them. I did not envy their job as all exhibit looked very similar as most of them were Sweet Candle.

Roedd gen i obeithion uchel iawn ar gyfer y dosbarth hwn eleni gan fod gen i wely newydd o 60 o foron mewn tywod bras iawn yn y twnel. Yn sicr roedd y moron yn y gwely hwn wedi pefformio dipyn gwell na'r hen wely oedd yn llawn o dywod coch, mai'n amlwg fod y draeniad yn y gwely newydd llawer gwell ac y gobaith oedd fod hyn am wella ar y safon yr oeddwn wedi gyrraedd or blaen. Roeddwn yn hynod o hapus i gael 5ed yn y dosbarth caled hwn hefo'r moron gorau imi erioed eu tyfu.

I had very high hopes for this class this year because I had constructed a new bed for 60 carrots with corse sand. The hope was that the new bed would perform better because the old bed had contained red sand, so hopefully the extra drainage in the coarse sand will improve the quality of the skin finish which    makes all the difference. I was extremely happy to get 5th in this highly contested class with the best set of carrots i have ever grown.

Dosbarth arall wnes i gystadlu ynddo oedd y 'Millenium Class' sef 4 taten, 4 beetroot, 4 o foron byr, 4 nionyn 250g a 4 tomato. Mae hwn yn ddosbarth anodd iawn oherwydd mae cal pob un o'r setiau ar eu gorau ar gyfer y sioe yn dalcen caled a dweud y lleiaf. Er gwaethaf hyn roeddwn yn o fewn 2 bwynt o gael 5ed a dim ond 4 pwynt o gael cerdyn coch.

Another class I entered was the 'Millenium Class' which is a tall order because you need sets of four potatoes, globe beetroot, stump carrots, 250g onions and tomatoes, and to get all of them to their optimum for show day. I was pleasantly surprised to be within 2 points of getting 5th and only 4 points from making it red!
